We were contracted to design a retaining wall along Kemper Road in Springdale, Ohio. The retaining wall was unique because of property line constraints and concern over the soil instability behind the proposed wall area. The property line extended back approximately 3 to 4 feet behind the wall area. Therefore, tiebacks were not possible.  The design called for mechanically connecting TENSAR geogrid to horizontal steel tubing that was connected directly to the cantilevered steel soldier piles.  This design minimized excavation, provided lateral support, reduced geogrid lengths and achieved an awesome appearance (using the segmental retaining wall MESA blocks).  The pictures below illustrate how this design was accomplished.
